Chronic Inflammatory Response  

Chronic inflammation is a real problem. It happens when the body continually sends out white blood cells and proteins known as cytokines that, over time, can cause harm to the body. This  process can actually create many types of chronic pain and chronic illness.

If you've been told that you have rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis, you know what we’re talking about.

But in actuality, almost all TMS conditions have some level of inflammation involved. That’s why Dr. Sarno used the term “myositis” which literally means: muscle inflammation. That’s what Tension Myositis Syndrome is.

So, everyone agrees that inflammation is bad, but most doctors are wrong when they try to explain where it’s coming from.

Most chronic inflammation is caused by emotional stress. 

Long-term stress activates a sympathetic nervous response that leads to chronic inflammation which eventually causes pain.
